Pet Portraits
More than just a cat or dog, pets are loved members of our family. Weather they are still with you or have passed over the rainbow bridge, a pet portrait is more than just an enlarged photograph.
I use oils on canvas to best capture your best friend. Oils provide rich colors and I use colors with high permanence so your portrait will last for decades. I paint both dogs and cats, long haired and short.
FAQs
What size do you offer?
I offer 11x14, 12x12, 16x20, and 18x24 inches. For other sizes, please contact me and we will discuss options. 11x14 and 12x12 are best for portraits featuring a single pet with a close up of their face.
Can I send multiple photos?
Yes, please! An ideal photo will have good lighting, usually outside. Photos taken inside will often appear too yellow. Photos should also have good resolution. It’s very difficult to work from a fuzzy photo or if the photo is taken with the dog too far away.
Are your portraits hand painted?
Yes! This is not a print on a canvas. Each portrait is hand painted by me. Because of this, it will take about 7 to 10 days to complete the portrait. I then coat it with a re-workable varnish before shipping. Overall, expect about 2 weeks before shipping.
What if I have a special request?
Feel free to contact me! The commission process is very focused on making sure the portrait meets expectations. This includes background elements, including or not including leashes, collars, or harnesses.
Do you teach how to paint pets?
I work at Painting with a Twist and teach the Paint your Pet class. I do not offer lesson outside of this.
Is the price up front? Do you do returns?
Like many artists, I require 50% up front before the start of work. After start of work, this is non refundable. Before shipping the final painting, I will send photos of the completed painting for final approval. At this point I can make final adjustments. Upon the final approval, the other 50% is due in order to ship the painting. After receiving the portrait, it its non-returnable and no refund will be issued. Consultation is free and a contract is sent out prior to the deposit.
